We made this little box for testing the electric trim switch on the KFC-200 autopilot.  It just plugs into the electric trim connector back in the tail.  Lets you know quickly if the electric trim servo is getting power as well as up and down commands.   We swiped the connector from a servo that was BER otherwise there isn't more than $20 in the whole thing.

I have a problem with a failed part in a KFC200 in a 1980 PA31-325 I operate. Its KFC200 installation includes an accelerometer. Its purpose is to trip off the AP if it senses too great a pitch up or down. Unfortunately, it has failed and the part isn't made anymore. The OEM offered to make one as a special order - for only $20,000!   That leaves us trying to find a used one for sale.  Not as easy as it sounds.  We've found some,  but they lack any guarantee of servicability.  Essentially, we buy one with a no refund policy for a couple or several thousand dollars and only then discover if it works or doesn't.

What's really frustrating is that other Navajos (including one I fly that is only a year older) with the same AP don't have this accelerometer, but apparently it isn't possible to remove it and recertify the installation minus the part.

Has anyone else run into this issue?

We haven't had one fail completely, what we did have is one that became hyper sensitive, it would kick the autopilot off whenever the heater was turned one just from the vibration of the combustion blower motor. We mounted the accelerometer on a thin piece of rubber and have been using it that way for the last three years. I know they are almost impossible to find.
