Well the long awaited Piper PA-31, PA31-325, and PA31-350 Engine Exhaust AD which was proposed last September and brought to our attention by user Orca, has finally been issued: AD 2013-10-04 rgl.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgAD.nsf/0/6dbfc2b419a3f03386257b8800465f0a/$FILE/2013-10-04.pdfThanks to all who commented during the comment period. You may remember that the original proposal included removing the clamps every 100 hours for inspection. Thankfully, after receiving the comments to the proposed AD and after several conversations with Mr. Gary Wechler of the Atlanta ACO, the AD now comes out as a relatively easy visual 60 hour inspection of the entire exhaust system on each engine. Thanks to Doug Deering, who pointed out that most of the Pipers here in Alaska have the STC SA240CH Aux Heat Exchanger installed, the FAA made provisions to allow that not all components will be installed that are required to be inspected in Table 1 of Paragraph (g). This eliminates the need to obtain an AMOC. Speaking of AMOC's, our AAIP Inspection Interval is 60 hours with a 5 hour window. We have started the AMOC process to allow the 60 hour inspection of this new AD to be extended as necessary to accommodate that 5 hour window. We'll keep you posted on the results. Again, thanks to all who commented - Well Done! Joe M Miller Warbelow's Air Ventures, Inc Fairbanks,Alaska
