Just had a Citation blow a rock into the pilots window and cracked it. Any advice on changing it would be greatly appreciated.
Where is the best source for a replacement? Are replacements even available? Anyone ever ferry an airplane with a cracked windshield?
Thanks

Replacements are available through Aviall though they are spendy (like 20k)- We have gotten a few lately
I am not sure we have ever ferried a plane with a cracked windshield but depending on how bad it may be doable -
We did inherit a Chieftain once with a plastic window in the left side but there is no way in our environment we could keep it in

Thanks Tim
We did end up buying one from Aviall, 21K and some change. Any advise on changing one? This will be a first for me and we have to do it away from home.

I know you already bought one, but thought this info might be useful to someone in the future. From my notes about the Navajo Chieftain heated windshield: Left / Pilot Heater Windshield Piper PN 41543-00 Hot Plate which can be used in lieu of heated windshield: www.avfab.com/piper-pa-31-navajo-windshield-anti-ice-hot-plate-kitCompany which repairs and/or manufactures heated windshields: Perkins Aircraft Services sales@perkinsaircraft.com 800-880-1966 Buys and sells used windshields: Jet Components 104 Lariat Trail Ovilla, Texas 75154 USA 972-217-9401 972-217-1701 wilson@jetcomponents.com

Thanks Tim:
I had a contract pilot who's also an A&P that owned some chieftains and had changed some windshields that helped me out. Worst part was getting the old one out and cleaning up all the sealant. We were able to save the collar at the base of the windshield and that saves a bunch of labor since the new collar from Piper comes without and holes in it.
