I am looking at installing an IAT probe. It appears in the bottom of the induction tube there is a 3/8-16 bolt where we have installed our temp probe for setting the density controller. I would think this would be a good spot for the IAT probe but I can not find a probe with that thread pattern. I can find 1/8" pipe, 1/4" pipe, and 7/16-20, along with the typical EGT style mounting where you drill an 1/8" hole and use the clamp style. Has anyone mounted their own probe and if so where did you mount it. If you used the port in the bottom of the induction tube what probe did you use.

The probe needs to mounted in the location prescribed by the Inlet Air Temperature (IAT) assembly manufacturer installation instructions. If you put the IAT probe in a different location the temperatures will have little meaning. As the air travels through the induction it's speed, pressure and temperatures are changing. Reference documents from Lycoming will not be relevant unless the probe is in the same place as Lycoming or STC holder prescribes.

We have put the IAT probe in the same location that lycoming prescribes for the density controller temp probe. I'll find out what sort of fitting the boys used - I remember the one supplied by JPI didn't fit because of interference with the cowl or something, I wasn't there but remember the bill for two new different style ones
